We are once again removing the parameters of a traditional deadlift competition and allowing all bodies and identities an opportunity to compete together. While this is a non-sanctioned meet it does give people a chance to showcase their strength in the body and identity they present to the world.
In 2019 we were able to raise over $7,000 through flat donations and pledge donations per pound of participant's total weight lifted. After expenses, every dime was donated to Courage MKE. Other ways we raised money was through sponsorship and raffle items!
This year we wanted to shoot for the moon and raised our goal to $100,000. After expenses, all money made will be donated or gifted to Black Space MKE. The three co-founders of Black Space include Dr. Lia Knox, Darius Smith & Corey Fells. Their intention is to create safe spaces for African American & LatinX LGBTQIA+, Womxn, & Mxn to engage in culturally sensitive group therapy experiences with a well trained mental health professional with the goal of destigmatizing mental health issues within these communities.
How does it work?
Each participant gets 3 lift attempts. Lifts will be determined good (2 out of 3 thumbs up) , or bad (1 or 0 thumbs up), by three judges. Each good lift will be added to a final total. Participants are not required to wear a singlet, but judges must be able to see the hips and knees clearly.
Want to Participate Virtually?
We understand that COVID is still a concern for many folks, and it is a concern for us, as well. We have also received interest in folks participating from across the country. Every Body Pulls intends to make this happen via Zoom so you can participate anywhere in the world!
What can I win?
Each participant will receive a t-shirt and cinch bag filled with small swag items upon registration. The Grand Prize winner will be the lifter who raises the most money for our organization of choice through pledges and donations. This person receives the mega swag gift bag filled with items from national and local small businesses.
